A positive hospital trip at last!

We had an outpatients appointment at Yorkhill today with Dr Bishop and Jenny, which went very well. Erin is growing like a mushroom and weighed 12lbs 5oz (5.59kg) so still putting on around 1oz every day. This was more than we could have hoped for while she is being soley breastfed, we were resigned to have to use Caprillon if she hadn't met weight targets, Dr. Bishop and Jenny were very impressed. They were also happy with her skin colour (she is no longer yellow : ) ) and abdomen, they could only just feel the left side of her liver and her spleen was normal sized.

We had a chat with the dietitian about weaning early and Erin is allowed baby rice from 16 weeks old, just 8 days away, eeeeek! We've to keep the dieticians informed of Erin's weight progress weekly for now but if things go well we can drop to twice monthly.

Then  we had to take tiddles to the treatment room for the dreaded blood sample. It took two attempts but she was quite easily calmed afterwards with a cuddle and a feed, it never gets any easier to see her distressed but at least it doesn't last too long.

We have decided to do something nice after every trip to Yorkhill so we went shopping to Braehead and got Erin a few things from Ikea. On the way home Jenny rang us with the blood test results. Her bilirubin level is now 31! (previously 150, 135 and 103) All the other liver function levels are dropping (although still a long way from normal) and Dr. Bishop is very happy with her progress so far.

So hurray, no more hospital visits for 6 weeks when Dr. McLean will be up from Leeds to meet us at Yorkhill. It will be nice to get a break from all the pre appointment worry and the dreaded blood sampling although Erin is due the first of her regular baby immunisations next week so there is no break for my poor wee pin cushion! She already started the week with the first of a series of Hep B vaccinations and was a bit clingy for the rest of the day afterwards so I spoiled her all day with cuddles on the couch, I think they were for my benefit too.
