Should have bought shares in Pampers.....

Well Erin is still not having a great time. She has had bad diorrhoea since last Monday. It could be many things, we both had our flu shots that day and her MMF (anti-rejection med) went up in dosage too. I was also under the weather over the weekend but feeling better now so maybe we both had a bug?She is also still really really suffering with her teeth, but bad teething can't cause 15-20 bouts of diorrhoea a day can it? The most worrying thing was her stools were very pale, and getting increasingly paler, so you all know the drill, off we went to Yorkhill for bloods on Monday.

Her LFT's (liver function tests) were all good, her CRP was only 3 so no obvious inflamatory response on the go, white blood cells were also good. They took stool samples to check for bugs, so far virology has come back negative - still waiting on bacteriology test results. Her Alk Phos is still insanely high at over 10,000 but (apparently!!) is not concerning and unrelated to this issue. So we are in the dark. I don't like the dark anymore.

One concerning result was her Tac level (how immune surpressed she is) has jumped to whopping 8.8, she is normally kept at around 4-5. This is probably because of the diorrhoea resulting in her absorbing more of her meds than usual and it means her immune system is being further surpressed than we would like so we are lowering her dose and will return for bloods on Monday to see if this has worked.

Unfortunately this all coincides with our liver specialist nurse being off on holiday (surely this should not be allowed ; ) ) and with our liver specialist doctor at Yorkhill having left we are a little unsure of our current 'team' at Yorkhill. So I've done the cautious mum thing and rang Leeds for reassurance. I'm just not comfortable riding this out for another week when we don't know what 'this' is. Although she is still drinking water and milk she has very little appetite and has barely eaten all week, very unlike my girly. Thankfully we have been working on her fat store for the last few months and she won't fade away overnight but I've already seen a huge difference in her lovely squishy tummy so the weight is melting off.

She is fairly miserable with it all, which breaks my heart and I daren't leave the house to try and disract her from feeling rubbish as she needs her nappy changed the second she has pooed as it really burns her skin.

Urgh, it doesn't get any easier to make decsions about her care when she is poorly.  I hate waiting on hospitals to get back to me, it is my single least favourite past time at the moment. I've been told parents of children who have been very sick and then transplanted often go on to develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder but in my case I find the word 'Post' very misleading, does Continuing Traumatic Stress Disorder exist??

Anyway, rant over. Here are some lovely Erin pics to cheer this post up a bit!
WARNING these images are of an extremely cute nature which some readers may find distressing....

  1. Aww - hope the little one's feeling better soon! And also that your continuing(!) traumatic stress disorder doesn't keep you from posting all these lovely cute photos ;)
