And the rollercoster continues

We are back in Yorkhill. It feels like groundhog day.

The ultrasound scan on Friday showed the ascites was draining and her liver was still looking ok. Excellent.

Over the weekend she seemed more unsettled and colicy. We were religiously taking her temperature and tummy measurements but they remained ok. She had a snuffly cold so we thought this might be the culprit. By Monday morning she was just not herself. She was due to get her vaccinations so I cancelled the appointment and rang Jenny at Yorkhill for advice. We thought the antibiotics may have upset her tummy so we were planning on keeping an eye on things but when I took a temperature she was spiking at 38.1. Panic stations.

Rang Yorkhill, they thought it best to bring her down. Rang Jamie to come get us. On attmittence she had no temperature so bloods were taken. CRP was still a bit high (50) but liver levels & bili were much the same. The GI team thought it might be bad reflux making her sore so we were admitted for 2 days observation and started on Ranitadine & gaviscon. Excellent we thought, easily treated.

Wedndesday, waiting to go home but the results of her 'exit' bloods have thrown a spanner in the works. CRP is 200 again. Bili is 75. Panic stations. We were sent for another scan straight away but thankfully showed no change in the liver and even less ascites. Good we thought. Back to the ward for a cannula and full blood workup. Initial thoughts are the infection from previous week is back but the symptoms aren't classic chloangitis. Another grim thought is that the Kasai is starting to fail. Gulp, we haven't even contemplated this prospect yet.

So tomorrow brings another lumbar puncture and a line being fitted. Erin has begun an initial course of i.v. antibiotics of 10 days. Fingers crossed she will feel better after a day or two and we will feel more confident that's it's an infection, never thought we'd be hoping for cholangitis......
