Happy New Year!

We have had a lovely Christmas and Erin is doing well at the moment. Things didn't go according to plan, we were supposed to go to my parents for dinner but my mum developed a bad cough so we couldn't take Erin over in case she picked it up. Luckily Jamie's parents managed to squeeze us in for dinner so we didn't exactly starve and Erin had a nice time playing with their decorations and all her new toys. She now has a comforter collection that would rival any toy shop and so many other nice things, her room is very full.

Since Boxing day Erin has been teething which has made her more unsettled and very dribbly so we are hoping this first pesky tooth is nearly through so the poor thing can get a break from feeling rubbish.

Pesky teeth!
2010 has been a difficult year to say the least but also the happiest since Erin arrived. I've learnt a lot over the past 6 month and our journey has completely changed my perspective on life.  I enjoy the simplest little things much more like a nice walk with the dogs, a smile from Erin or just getting to eat a meal with both hands!  I've learnt to look on the bright side of things and find being positive is less exhausting and frightening than worrying all the time. I'm more patient than I ever thought I could be but also so frustrated at times and quite angry about how much Erin has to go through on a daily basis. I also find it hard to hear people moaning or complaining about petty problems these days. I've seen how strong people can be in times of immense sadness, when things really really matter so I've little sympathy left to those who wallow in self pity over day to day stresses that mean nothing.

I've been so comforted by those who have offered us the most support, I will never forget their acts of kindness or warm words of care. We have had so much continuing support from unexpected places, people I hardly know and others I've barely met. I have also been upset at the lack of support from some I thought would always be there for me, I guess they find it easier to ignore the situation and probably lack the courage to be on this journey with us. The excuse of ''I didn't want to bother you'' really doesn't wash when I think about how long Erin has been ill for, do they really think we don't need our friends for 6 months? Anyway I'm not going to dwell on them but I'll certainly never forget.

We are looking forward to going to my parents tomorrow for New Year's dinner and fingers crossed Erin's little tooth is through soon. We are hoping she is putting on weight, she certainly feels heavier! So I guess we are starting the New Year with more than a bit of uncertainty but a lot of hope, Erin deserves a change in luck that's for sure. She is certainly developing new skills and a sense of humour, her favourite game is to throw things on the floor to watch you pick them up, I'm sure her repertoire of tricks will grow every day and who could resist smiling back at this wee face?
