Well by the looks of things we are better off in hospital than at home at the minute as Scotland is under a thick blanket of snow, at least there is a good coffee bar with cakes to keep us going here.
Erin had an ultrasound scan yesterday which showed no real change in liver or spleen but a little ascities is back. She was very helpful and held the probe for the sonographer! Her blood results were fairly positive with CRP dropping massively to 50 and bili is now 48 but albumin is only 22. So the plan is to continue another week ok antibiotics and see what the bloods reveal then. She is also getting some diuretics to help get rid of the ascities.
She isn't feeding very well at the minute, possibly due to the ascities, so we are giving her mainly Caprillon to help with her weight (she is only 6.2kgs) which she seems ok about. She really needs to take in about 900mls per day which she normally manages but she has dropped to only 500mls on a few days so there is the possibility she may need to be topped up by tube feeding. I'm dreading this to be honest, it's something I'd hoped to avoid. It didn't go well in Leeds with the NG tube and she is even more of a mischief now for pull at wires so I can't imagine she'll be too chuffed. If she needs it she needs it and there is no choice really, it will only be temporary and might take the pressure off feed times. It just seems a shame as she is normally such a good feeder who enjoys her grub.
Anyway the Xmas decorations are up on the ward so it's a bit more cheerful looking, I just hope we get out before Santa visits.
She has developed an interesting sleep habit of needing chicken on her head (see photo) she is a funny wee stick!
