First blip

Well we were told to expect a blip or two and today we had our first. Erin's AST levels were up and she wasn't quite herself this morning. The dr's are thinking its a bit of rejection which sounds scary but is quite common at this stage and treated by changing meds. Rejection makes you feel a bit flu like so she has been quite subdued today.

The anti-rejection drug (called Tac) is absorbed & metabolised differently by everyone and the levels in her blood have been lower than they would like, she is metabolising it quicker than they thought which has probably led to this bit of rejection. So they are starting her on iv steroids and upping the dose of Tac so she should feel better quite soon. As a precaution they took her to theatre for a liver biopsy just to make sure it is rejection and no other issue. She was squeezed onto the emergency list (again!) early afternoon and only away for an hour. That's her third time in theatre in 7 days and her 8th GA. You know it's been a bad run when you know all the theatre staff and they know you.....

Anyway we have our tiddles back again and she was delighted to be given a bottle of milk on her return! She had the funniest look on her face as if to say 'finally, I've been telling you all for days I want a bottle!' I can't wait to see her face when realises she is allowed solids tomorrow!

We also got a lovely parcel this morning for our fab friends Lucy, Paul & Kate. As you can see from the piccy Erin was very pleased with the gift of a hand puppet book, not so impressed with mum & dads singing though....




So the biopsy results should be in tomorrow but we hope the tweak in her drugs will mean she is feeling better by then.

The ward has been very busy as there was another liver transplant on Saturday and a kidney transplant too. The nurses here are just amazing at looking after everyone though, nothing is too much trouble.
